DAY ON THE HILL WITH CONGRESSWOMAN CANDICE MILLER
NRAA Day on the Hill
On May 6, 2010, Kathleen Radtke, Director, Dialysis Serives, GHS and two Eastpointe Dialysis Center patients, Darrell Kelley and Yulonda McReynolds, spent a Day On the Hill in meetings with Congressional offices and advisors. . The Day started with a breakfast at the Rayburn Building with Congresswoman Shelley Berkley (D-NV) as guest speaker. Representative Berkley’s husband is a practicing nephrologist in Las Vegas.
The Congressional meetings focused on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed ESRD bundled payment regulation which goes into effect on January 1, 2011. The groups expressed their concerns regarding oral drugs without an intravenous equivalent being included in the bundled payment system and the likely negative impacts on patients and dialysis providers. In addition, concerns were expressed regarding the proposed 3 percent overall reduction in payment during the phase-in period in order to achieve budget neutrality.

MISSION STATEMENT
ENGAGING EXCELLENCE
Greenfield Health Systems’ 2009 Renal Symposium was a great success! We had approximately 200 people/day and the feedback received on the evaluations was extremely positive. Participants wrote such comments as “Best one yet!”; “loved the opportunity to hear from a patient and his views on ‘The Patient as Captain’”; “Dr. Patel gave us very good information on the barriers to transplantation”; “it was good to hear the latest on health care reform and bundling from Mr. Klepner – I hope to hear more like this in the future”. . (Slides)

We will be hearing from experts on such topics as the management of pain, evaluation for transplantation, and diabetes and kidney disease. One of our very own home hemodialysis patients will be providing us with education from the perspective of a renal care consumer.

We also anticipate interesting and useful information from a speaker on legislative activity, a topic requested from previous attendees.
So, reserve the date now and we look forward to seeing you there!
